Steering Committee Call for Volunteers

In a recent revision to the directions provided by SCIP to Chapter Coordinators is a suggestion that no one person should endure as a chapter coordinator for more than three years. I agree with this provision, and I enter my third year as Chapter Coordinator for the Greater Washington DC Chapter with the intention of establishing a strong steering committee and training a strong successor the Chapter Chair position.

To that end I want to send out this call for volunteers to serve on the chapter steering committee for the 2008 - 2009 season. We will begin our planning for September 2008 - July 2009 very soon.

Please e-mail me at august@augustjackson.net if you are interested in serving on the steering committee. I am planning to institute two tiers of involvement:

1. Senior Steering Committee: Consisting of the Chapter Chair, Programming Chair and Membership Chair. More details on these positions will be posted in a separate message. Each of these three will be expected to make a one year committment to their involvement and good faith effort to attend every steering committee meeting and chapter meeting.

2. Associate Steering Committee: For those members who want to take an active and supportive role in the chapter but for whatever reason cannot make a long-term committment of the level of a Senior member. These individuals will be asked to support the chapter in activities that are of interest to them as individuals. Some examples of these activities include working with the Programming Chair to develop a specific program or working with the Membership Chair to promote SCIP in another professional organization of which they are a member.
